- Mr. Kanter's message:
- This 2012-2013 school year -- corresponding to Jewish year 5773 -- was a great year for Jewish learning in our Sunday morning class at Am Yisrael! We focused on Tefillah, the Jewish prayers that express our hopes, feelings and concerns of the Jewish people. We became much more proficient at saying and leading prayers in the Synagogue! We received numerous comments from our families, friends, and fellow worshippers, who were so happy to see young people participating in the services! In bewteen all that, we had a great series of discussions on matters of Jewish interest, and learned a lot about Jewish values. Please encourage your children to regularly review the prayers they learned, and to come to the Synagogue for services whenever possible. Most of all, thank you for letting me be your child's teacher. I look forward to seeing everyone again next year. Meanwhile, have a great summer! - Keith Kanter
- Mr. Kanter's Parent Prompt:
- Ask your child what s/he can do over the summer to reinforce what s/he learned at SJS this year.
- Mr. Kanter's Homework Assignment:
- The following is not mandatory homework, however, practicing these prayers from time to time over the same will keep them much more fresh in your child's minds: Birchot HaShachar, Baruch She'Amar, Shochen Ad, Yishtabach,Chatzi Kaddish, Barechu, Eil Adon, Kadosh/Or Chadash, Ahavah Rabah, and the Friday Night Kiddush! That prayer is track 24 on Cantor Simon's CD. Here is the online link with a PDF with the written words from the CD at the bottom of the webpage: http://amyisrael.org/content/shabbat-morning-services-prayers
- Mrs. Prero's Message:
- It's hard to believe that it's already the end of the school year! I want to reiterate what I told my students. I have so much respect for each and every student for investing so much in their Judaism (regardless if parents make them go!). The students decided to divide the tzedakah money they brought in this year between the Les Turner ALS Foundation, Keshet, IDF, the Friends of the IDF, Israel Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.I know waking up early on Sunday mornings and coming to SJS after a long day at school on Wednesdays cannot be easy, and yet you come with a smile and ready to learn. I have enjoyed getting to know my students and I will miss all of you over summer break. Wishing you and your families an amazing fun filled and safe summer!
