Shabbat Morning Family Programming
Shabbat Morning Family Programming (SMFP) is a golden opportunity for all of the children within our congregational family to spend time together.
For the 2011–12 school year, SMFP will take place on the following dates:
- October 22
- November 19
- January 21
- February 4
- March 17
- April 21
- May 19
Our Gan (Kindergarten) through Vav (6th Grade) classes meet from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Day School students and their parents are welcome to enjoy these services. The Gan (Kindergarten) through Vav (6th Grade) students all meet in the school building classrooms from 9:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. for age-appropriate learning experiences. The students’ parents are encouraged to attend Shabbat morning services beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the main sanctuary through Rabbi Newman Kamin’s D’var Torah.
At 10:00 a.m., the Heh (5th Grade) and Vav (6th Grade) go into the main sanctuary with Mr. Ezra Balser for Rabbi Newman Kamin’s D’var Torah. At 10:15 a.m. the Gan (Kindergarten) through Dalet (4th Grade) students begin a student-led, teacher-facilitated prayer service led by Mr. Sherman, Mr. Marc Nevins and Mrs. Lynn Washer.
At the conclusion of Rabbi Newman Kamin’s D’var Torah, all parents of Gan (Kindergarten) through Dalet (4th Grade) students are strongly encouraged to go to the school building to join the student-led service mentioned above. With the addition of the parents, the service becomes Tefillat HaMishpacha (Family Service). One of the highlights of this service is Family Torah reading. Families who are interested in reading from the Torah scroll should contact Mr. Sherman either in the office at 847-446-7215, on his cell phone at 847-708-1805, or via email at csherman@amyisrael.org. He will email the verses both in text and mp3 format.
Parents of students who are in the Heh (5th Grade) and Vav (6th Grade) are encouraged to remain in the Sanctuary to see their children lead portions of the main service. Ideally the Gan (Kindergarten) through Dalet (4th Grade) students will enter the main sanctuary to be able to go onto the bimah to gain the experience of leading Adon Olam with Cantor Simon in front of the entire congregation.
Tot Shabbat Service
This service is parent-led for children up through early childhood (age 4), their parents and other relatives. It takes place the same weeks that our Gan (Kindergarten) through Vav (6th Grade) have Shabbat Morning Family Programming from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The parents and children in this service join the end of the Kindergarten through 4th Grade Family Service.
