Northfield synagogue school mixes Jewish education, technology
Ancient theology is being taught with the most modern technology at Am Yisrael Conservative Congregation in Northfield. Am Yisrael School of Jewish Studies was the first synagogue school on the North Shore to use a SMARTBoard, a large screen that merges the convenience of a chalkboard with the vast capabilities of a modern computer. AYSJS has four SMARTBoards, several laptops and iPads in the WiFi supported school, attached to the synagogue building. Click here to continue reading the article
Technology brings new teaching of old theology

Charlie Sherman sat in a half-circle of young students studying how to put a newspaper together, his kippa skullcap perched atop his head.
The students, armed with pens and notebooks, were interviewing Sherman, their principal at Am Yisrael School of Jewish Studies, for an upcoming article.
On the surface, Am Yisrael in Northfield looks like any other conservative Jewish school, but since Sherman has taken the helm last year, he’s introduced four interactive white boards, five iPads and an arsenal of laptops and digital cameras. Click here to continue reading this article
Northfield Synagogue Provides Chicago Homeless with Food, Hope
As part of its Tikkun Olam mitzvah project, Am Yisrael Synagogue will assemble 160 bag lunches to help feed Chicago’s homeless on Sunday, Nov. 6. The assembled brown bag meals will augment a hot lunch provided by Two Li’l Fishes Shelter, 941 W. Lawrence Ave., Chicago. This is the third year that Am Yisrael has assisted the local shelter.
