Dalet (Fourth Grade) - Curriculum
Components of Dalet include the following:
- Prayer Tefillah
- Students will master the foundations of the prayers that will make it possible to feel lead, participate, and feel comfortable in the P'sukei D'zimra, Shacharit, Mincha, Ma’ariv, and Musaf services. Every Wednesday afternoon, Dalet students join with the Gimel and Heh classes in prayer; they also join for the Family Service Tefillat HaMishpacha as part of the Shabbat Morning Family Programming. One of the highlights of the year is a Siddur ceremony, part of the students leading Shacharit services at Sunday morning minyan.
- Hebrew Bible TaNaCH
- Students will learn each weekly Torah portion, emphasizing dramatic reading and the ethics and values contained in the text. Students will become familiar with hero figures from the Bible, culminating in a Heroes Fair, another highlight of the year. Students are strongly encouraged to read from the Torah at our once-a-month Shabbat Morning Family Service Tefillat HaMishpacha, which involves receiving an MP3 recording and chanting one to three verses. Students will have the opportunity to practice chanting at school in addition to at home.
- Israel
- Building on the Heroes theme of the Dalet year, students will learn about historical and current Zionist and Israeli leaders.
- Hebrew Ivrit
- Students will learn to read and understand the prayers that they will recite at their Siddur Ceremony, and will participate in a Tefillah lab. Students are expected to practice regularly for 30 minutes a week at home.
- Holidays
- Students will learn more advanced concepts than previously, leading to a more in-depth understanding of the stories behind the holidays, mitzvot, and historical connections. Students will perform a Purim play entirely in Hebrew.
- Jewish Literacy
- Students will learn the names of the twelve Hebrew months and the weekly Torah portions.
- Art Class
- Students will create projects that connect to the curriculum with Ms. Michelle Drucker and Ms. Sheila Serota.
- Music Class
- Students will learn new Jewish songs with Ms. Natasha Bodansky and Madrich Ryan Hochman.
